Doyle Beanie

Long time no see.. January was a little bit of a rough month, it had its ups and downs. They were some amazing ups though.

I'm back to lectures full time now so I'm spending my days on campus and my evenings at home working on assignments (I have a lot). One thing that is keeping me sane is knitting. As some of you may know I knit in most lectures as it allows me to stay focused. That and it helps me relieve stress too!

These are some examples of my lecture knitting projects for the last few weeks, they're all hats!

I've been doing my best to keep up with all my coursework and also do some extra challenges . I started the #5shawlsin5days challenge by Aroha Knits. I managed three out of five. So, I tried. And the mini shawls looks super cute!

I'm just not so sure that shawls are my thing, its not an accessory that I would wear myself. I tend to go more for scarves or cowls. But I'm still very glad I took part in the challenge, even though it conquered me a bit. Next time it comes round I'll challenge myself more by implementing mroe techniques and colour changes. Love me some lace.

Around Christmas I finished the cutest little hat which was a Christmas present. I designed the pattern myself and its rather cute! I actually finished it on New Years Day!

I used some Hayfield Chunky with wool in black. I didn't even use the full ball! I'd advise either using this yarn or a similar chunky.

The abbreviation C2B that I use below means transfer two stitches onto a cable needle, knit two stitches from the main needle and then knit the two stitches from the cable needle.

Using 6.5mm needles cast on 48 stitches.
Begin the hat by knitting a knit 2 purl 2 rib for 8 rows.

Rows 1 to 3: Knit to end of row.
Row 4: *C2B, K4* Repeat between stars to end of row.

Rows 5-9: Knit to end of row.
Rows 10: *C2B, K4* Repeat between stars to end of row.

Repeat rows 5 to 10, 5 times (not including the one you've just done!)

After last repeat begin the decreasing sequence.
Row 1: Knit to end of row.
Row 2: Knit to end of row.
Row 3: Knit to end of row.
Row 4: *K2TOG* to end of row ( 24 times).
Row 5: *K2TOG* to end of row ( 12 times).
Row 6: *K2TOG* to end of row (6 times).

Cut yarn leaving a long tail. Weave the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight.
Then add a pompom!!

Okay I hate this photo of myself but whatever.

Yeah, not the best photo of me. But the hat is hella cute ok. If you make one please use the hashtag #doylebeanie so I can see them all!!

Enjoy you cuties! xx
